	Wrecks in Narvik !




	M/S Stråssa was launched in 1921 in Gothenburg. The ship was 127 meter long and had a crew with 34 men. During second world war M/S Stråssa transported ore from Narvik to USA. In 1940 she departedon the 6th of April , fully loaded with iron ore destined to Baltimore in USA, but got problem with the cooling system in Lofoten. The ship stood still for two days when a German destroyer ordered M/S Stråssa to return to Narvik. In 1940 the 11 if May at 11:35 o clock an explosion detonated onboard. Ten minutes later M/S Stråssa stood at 26 meters depth. Stands up like a “Donald Duck “wreck. 	Wilhelm Heidkamp- a German destroyer which was built in Bremen in 1936 and was in charge of a convoy with ten destroyers during World War II. The ship was 122 meters long, had a crew with 323 men and a top speed of 36 knots. Wilhelm Heidkamp was sunk by HMS Hunter, HMS Havock and HMS Hardy at 05:30 AM in 1940 on the 10th of April. All together 81 men was lost. Today Wilhelm Heidkamp stands on its right keel in dept 14-24 meters outside Narviks airport. 	Anton Schmitt - a German destroyer with the designation Z21 and was a twin ship to Wilhelm Heidkamp. The ship was build in 1936 in Bremen, it was 123 meter long and had a crew of 323 men and a top speed in 36 knots. Anton Schmitt was sunk near Wilhelm Heidmap in 1940 on April 10 and lies today on the starboard tack In 16-27 meters of water. Depth: 14-27 meter Medium depth: 16-23 meter Length: 123 meter Width: 12 Diving place/ diving package: “wreck diving in Narvik”




	The ore steamer D/S Romanby was built in 1921 in England. The ship was by anchor in Narvik when it was torpedoed 1940 on the 10th of April. The ship was 130 meters long, 18 meters wide and had a crew of 34 men. Today Romanby stands on her right keel in a depth of 16-29 meters. Depth: 15- 29 meter Medium depth: about 16-24 meter Length: 130 meters Width: 18 meters Diving place/ Diving package: “wreck diving in Narvik”

The German cargo ship Neuenfels was torpedoed in 1940 on the 10th of April. Neuenfels was with it 143 meter and 8000 gross a big cargo ship. Today it stands on it's right keel in a depth of 9-24 meters.

Fourty Kilometers (~25 miles) outside Narvik lies the lake Hartvigvattnet. The Germans used the lake for take-off and landing for their Junker plane.Junker 52 was a twelve meter long, three engines plane that transported warmaterial to the German troops. The plane fell through the ice in 1940. Today the well kept wreck lies in depth of 2-7 meters.

Diving place/ Diving package: private day trip, lies in a tarn.




	Martha Heinrich Fisser was built in 1911 in Germany. The ship was 118 meters long and torpedoed in 1940 on the 10th of April in Narviks harbour. It stands like a “Donald Duck” wreck. Depth: 15-27 meter Medium depth: about 17-23 meter Length: 118 meter Width: 18 meter Diving place/ Diving package: “wreck diving in Narvik”




	The German destroyer HERMANN KUNNE Z 19 was sunk in 1940 on April 13. Until the 24th of March 2005 there was diving prohibition. Narvik dyk och äventyr is the only company that have permission to dive there. The ship was 123,5 meter long and twelve meters wide. She was pushed up on a sandy beach in the outskirts of Narvik and lies in depth 0-37 meter. Depth: 14-37 meter The average diving dept can be decided by each diver. DRONNING MAUD was built and launched in 1925. The ship was built to traffic along Norway’s coast and was included as a ship in brisk route. The ship was later rebuilt to be a so called hospital ship which she later was called. Dronning Maud was on the way to Foldvik to load people, cars and supplies when she was fired at by a German plane. A fire started onboard and later that day the ship sunk in 1940 on May 1st. It stands on right keel like a “ Donald Duck” wreck.
